19 मई 2025 को सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने मध्य प्रदेश के मंत्री विजय शाह की कर्नल सोफिया कुरैशी पर की गई आपत्तिजनक टिप्पणी पर सख्त नाराजगी जताई। कोर्ट ने कहा कि इस तरह की टिप्पणी न सिर्फ एक महिला ऑफिसर का अपमान है, बल्कि इससे पूरा देश शर्मिंदा हुआ है।
सुप्रीम कोर्ट के जज सूर्या कांत ने सुनवाई के दौरान कहा कि इस तरह के शब्द एक मंत्री के लिए बहुत ही गैर-जिम्मेदाराना हैं और इससे देश की सेना और महिलाओं का अपमान होता है। उन्होंने यह भी कहा कि कोई भी मंत्री कानून से ऊपर नहीं है और ऐसे बयानों पर सख्त कार्रवाई होनी चाहिए।
विजय शाह द्वारा दी गई माफी को कोर्ट ने नकार दिया और कहा कि यह माफी सिर्फ दिखावे की है, इसमें कोई सच्चा पछतावा नहीं दिखता। कोर्ट ने इस मामले की गंभीरता को देखते हुए एक स्पेशल इन्वेस्टिगेशन टीम (SIT) बनाने का आदेश दिया है जो इस पूरे मामले की गहराई से जांच करेगी।

The SIT, to be constituted by the Madhya Pradesh Director General of Police by 10 AM on May 20, 2025, will consist of three senior IPS officers, including one woman, and will be led by an Inspector General-rank officer. It has been tasked with conducting a fair and unbiased probe and submitting a status report by May 28, 2025.
